American Girl: Courtney 1986
A 25-minute stop motion animated movie for American Girl doll Courtney Moore, created for the official American Girl YouTube channel!
This project featured a combination of 32-bit and 64-bit pixel art and stop motion for radical 80's awesomeness!
Based on the novel Courtney Changes the Game written by Kellen Hertz, this animted movie is about 25-minutes long,
We worked closely with Mattel, American Girl, and a team of 32 incredible artists to bring Courtney's novel to full stop motion animated life. Our puppet fabricaton team turned nearly 50 American Girl dolls into animatable stop motion puppets, and our incredible art department designed and built 6 stop motion sets for 4 different locations to create a complete world and bring both Courtney and her world to the screen. All of the stop motion animation for the series was animated by a team of 6 animators over the course of 6 weeks.
One of the coolest parts of this project was creating the 2D pixel animation for Courtney's video game alter ego, Crystal Starshooter! Inspired by the 8-bit video games of the 80's, our 2D pixel animation was made by a team of 3 pixel artists, who created around 3.5 minutes of 32-bit and 64-bit pixel 2D video game animation.
